King Sindu Raza supposedly built an iron castle on the site where the temple stands today. The castle was believed to be a colossal nine storied structure. Over time the castle deteriorated until no trace remained at the current site. Later, Terton (Treasure discoverer) Dorji Lingpa built a temple and consecrated with treasures dedicated to the daughter of the King. She was believed to have been one of the consorts of Guru Rinpoche.
